About

Biography

Lifelong residents of New York State, my husband and I moved to Corvallis, OR in October 2018 to be near our daughter in Monmouth.

I was born and raised in Potsdam and Hannawa Falls, in the northernmost part of New York State.  Surrounded by beautiful lakes, rivers, and the Adirondack Mountains, I was often outside sketching, and observing nature. A neighbor of ours, Robert Plumb, was a well-known watercolor painter of Adirondack scenes.  I was fascinated!  I was babysitting his children, and convinced him to pay me with a few painting lessons.  I dreamed of becoming an artist.  However, when it came time for college, I chose music, majoring in viola and piano.  Later — 42 years later! — remembering those painting lessons, I decided to try watercolor.

I enrolled in a weekly art class in 2001, taught by Kristin Woodward, in Latham, NY. I attended this class for 17 years, learning everything I could about watercolor, along with making many good friends.  I was a member of the Colonie Art League for many years, participating in many shows, and workshops.  I had my work in several local shops, selling originals, prints, and cards.

Learning to paint with watercolors was like learning a new language, a new way to express feelings, and moods.  Over the last 20+ years, it has become my haven, my escape, and a necessary part of my life, to be able to create with watercolors.  I have experimented with other mediums but I always come back.  Part of the allure of this medium is the unpredictability, the way the water and the pigments combine and move on the paper.  I am still learning about watercolor with every painting I create.
